Single Sculls

Ocean Shell– Beginner If you are just starting to row, the Alden ocean shell is the boat for you. This is our most stable boat– built for rowing on open water. The hull is short and flat-bottomed. The rigging system is removable, ideal for practicing the mechanics of rowing on land.
Star– Beginner/intermediate For rowers with some experience, the Alden Star is a good stepping stone towards more advanced boats. Rowers of all different skill levels use this boat to transition out of ocean shells and on to a relaxing recreational row. This hull is designed longer than the ocean shell, but maintains a flat bottom and fair stability. It also has a skeg (or fin), helping the rower maneuver in a straighter line.
Echo– Beginner/intermediate The Echo is similar to an Alden Star. However, the boat has a folding, rigging system, making it easier for boathouse storage. Because it is designed for rowing on open water, the Echo is another stable option.
Maas– Intermediate For rowers who want more of a challenge, but aren’t ready to race, the Maas is a good choice. Its longer, more narrow shape makes it a faster, smoother ride. The hull is rounded, instead of flat, meaning it is less stable. This is the most poignant difference for those transitioning out of Stars and Echos. Advanced rowers often take this boat out on a windy day instead of a racing shell.

Racing Shells– Advanced

Racing shells are significantly longer than single boats, averaging between 24’ and 28’. They are narrow and light (25-35 lbs), which makes for speedy rowing. Our line-up of equipment includes:

Little Red: Levator racing shell, recommended for experienced rowers up to 125 lbs.

Wintech: Wintech racing shell, recommended for experienced rowers over 200 lbs.

Campfuel: Levator racing shell, recommended for experienced rowers between 125 and 200 lbs. Fun fact: Campfuel and Pinky are identical boats, but with different paint jobs and histories.

Pinky: Levator racing shell, recommended for experienced rowers between 125 and 200 lbs. Fun fact: Campfuel and Pinky are identical boats, but with different paint jobs and histories.

Hudson: Hudson racing shell, recommended for experienced rowers between 125 and 200 lbs. This boat’s name is actually “Non Sequitur,” but everyone just calls it Hudson.
